It was October 27th, 1967, and the 2-1-1 team from UTEP was travelling to take on New Mexico in a WAC showdown.
The game may have seemed inconsequential to those in attendance - little did they know that they were about to see an offensive record set that will almost certainly never be broken.
UTEP, led by QB Brooks Dawson, had a very potent offense. The team was averaging 34.5 points per game when they take on New Mexico on that warm Friday evening.
UTEP had a 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, led by three passes by Dawson (25 yard pass, 10 yard pass, 74 yard pass).
By the end of the second quarter, UTEP was up 41-6, thanks to two more TD passes from Dawson - a 78 yard passing touchdown and a 74 yard passing touchdown.
By the end of the first half, Dawson was 5-5 with 261 passing yards and 5 passing touchdowns.
An unbelievable line.

Early in the second half, Dawson would connect with Volley Murphy for an 86 yard touchdown pass.
Dawson was now 6-for-6 with 347 yards of passing and six touchdowns.
Dawson would eventually throw a pass that would NOT lead to a touchdown. Later in the game, Dawson would score on a 9-yard touchdown run before being taken out of the game.
UTEP would win by a score of 75-12.

According to an article from the Odessa American, dated Sunday, October 29th, 1967, Dawson's success were more a result of strong blocking, as a number of short passes got turned into some very long gains for touchdowns.
New Mexico was just in disarray on the defensive side and could do nothing to stop the UTEP attack.

6-for-6 with 6 passing touchdowns - this is another record that will NEVER be topped, for obvious reasons.
