Ray Charles Leonard, also known as "Sugar" Ray Leonard, is a famous retired boxer, often seen as one of the best in the sport.

His career lasted from the late 1970s to the 1980s, beginning with a light-welterweight gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. The assistant coach of the US Olympic Boxing Team, told coach Dave Jacobs, "That kid you got is sweet as sugar." This is how the nickname "Sugar" started and stayed.

After turning professional in 1977, Leonard quickly became known for his speed and skill.

He won world titles in five weight divisions. His major fights against Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, and Wilfred Benitez are considered classics, greatly adding to his reputation.

Leonard played a key role in making lower weight classes popular through his charm, positively affecting the image of the sport.
