Sports Nicknames - Ice Man

Eidur Gudjohnsen is the most famous Icelandic footballer ever.

’Eidur

The blonde haired hitman played the "Beautiful Game" in Belgium, England, Spain, France and China. Known for his calmness under pressure and his cool, collected mind, the man from the Nordics earned the nickname "Ice Man".

Eidur's first big club was PSV Eindhoven, where he played alongside the famous Brazilian Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima. A few years later Gudjohnsen found himself at Chelsea playing under Jose Mourinho and winning back to back English Premier League titles.

Eidur was the type of a player who played at his own pace. He was an artist on the pitch. A true professional with humble manners. He believed in his own talents and he showed this best in the way he elegantly executed the scissor kick maneuver, which was a thing of beauty.

Next destination for the "Ice Man" was Barcelona FC. There Gudjohnsen played alongside Xavi, Ronaldinho, Puyol and Messi and was coached by Pep Guardiola. This team famously won the treble in the 2008/09 season.

Not many players got to play alongside Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Messi during their prime years. And not many can say that they were managed by both Mourinho and Guardiola. Eidur was there and he won many trophies doing it. This is why some joke that Gudjohnsen is the "Forrest Gump of Football".

Eidur Gudjohnsen also played internationally for Iceland and helped his small nation get in the footballing spotlight.
