Definition of Result and Total

What does the term "result and total" mean in the world of sports betting? What does the term "result and total" mean when it comes to betting on the NFL?

With the result and total line, you are looking to correctly guess both the winner of the game (or if there will be a tie) AND whether the total went over or under.

The King explains the meaning of the betting term Results and Total. What type of a bet is this? For instance - let's say that the Cincinnati Bengals are playing the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football.

The "result and total" lines might look like this:

Jacksonville

Over 45.5, 7.50
Under 45.5, 5.50

Tie

Over 45.5, 81.00
Under 45.5, 71.00

Cincinnati

Over 45.5, 2.37
Under 45.5, 2.50

So, let's say that you think that Jacksonville is going to pull off the upset in a high-scoring shootout.

In this case, you'd want to take Jacksonville Over 45.5 at 7.50.

Remember - in order to win this bet, Jacksonville must win, PLUS the game must go over 45.5 points.

If Jacksonville wins the game in a low-scoring affair, you will lose.
