What does the term "Lucky 31" mean in the world of sports betting? What is the definition of the term "Lucky 31"?
A "Lucky 31" bet is popular in the world of sports betting, particularly horse racing.
A "Lucky 31" involves making five selections on five different races. These five selections create a total of 31 separate bets, which is where the term "Lucky 31" comes in.
The "Lucky 31" is comprised of the following 31 bets:
1. 5 Singles
2. 10 Doubles
3. 10 Trebles
4. 5 Fourfold Accumulators
5. 1 Fivefold Accumulator
Each of the 31 bets stands on its own. You can select an amount to wager on each bet, or a total amount for the Lucky 31 that will be divided 31 ways.
So, let's say that you have five different races that you are watching, and you like the following horses in each race:
Horse A
Horse B
Horse C
Horse D
Horse E
Your bets would look like this:
Singles
Horse A, Horse B, Horse C, Horse D, Horse E
Doubles
Horse A, Horse B to win
Horse A, Horse C to win
Horse A, Horse D to win
Horse A, Horse E to win
Horse B, Horse C to win
Horse B, Horse D to win
Horse B, Horse E to win
Horse C, Horse D to win
Horse C, Horse E to win
Horse D, Horse E to win
Trebles
Horse A, B, C to win
Horse A, B, D to win
Horse A, B, E to win
Horse A, C, D to win
Horse A, C, E to win
Horse A, D, E to win
Horse B, C, D to win
Horse B, C, E to win
Horse B, D, E to win
Horse C, D, E to win
Fourfold Accumulators
Horse A, B, C, D to win
Horse A, B, C, E to win
Horse A, B, D, E to win
Horse A, C, D, E to win
Horse B, C, D, E to win
Fivefold Accumulator
Horse A, B, C, D, E to win
In order to calculate your potential winnings for each wager on the Lucky 31, simply multiply the odds for each horse by your wager.
So, if Horse A was 2.00 to win and Horse B was 3.00 to win, and each Lucky 31 bet was costing you £1, your total potential winnings for that Double would be (2.00 x 3.00 x £1).
Notes:
By including an "each way" bet to each selection, you will be doubling the cost of your ticket, as you will be doubling the total number of bets from 31 to 62.
Many bookmakers will give out one (or more) of these three bonuses on Lucky 31 tickets:
1. One Winner Bonus
2. One Loser Bonus
3. All Winners Bonus
