Definition of First Scoring Play
What does the term "first scoring play" mean in the world of football betting? What is meant by a "first scoring play" bet?
With the "first scoring play" line, you are betting on two things:
1) Which team will score first
2) What the method of the score will be
So, let's say that the Baltimore Ravens are playing on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals are favoured to win.
The six "first scoring play" lines might look like this:
Baltimore Ravens - Touchdown, +380
Baltimore Ravens - Field Goal, +360
Baltimore Ravens - Safety, +6000
Cincinnati Bengals - Touchdown, +145
Cincinnati Bengals - Field Goal, +280
Cincinnati Bengals - Safety, +600
So, let's say that you believe that the Bengals will score first, and it will be a touchdown.
You'd want the "Cincinnati Bengals - Touchdown" line at +145 in this case.
If the Bengals open up the scoring with a touchdown and you put down $100, you would earn a total profit of $145.
If the Bengals score first but they kick a field goal, you would lose your bet.
