Game Preview: Arsenal vs. Tottenham - English Premier League - September 1st, 2013

The two London sides, Arsenal and Tottenham, meet in the third round of the English Premier League (EPL) on Sunday, September 1st, 2013 at Emirates Stadium. The kick-off is at noon, local time.

Arsenal lost their home season opener to Aston Villa (1-3) and then went on to beat Fulham (1-3) at Craven Cottage. In the UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualifiers, Arsenal eliminated Fenerbahce 5-0 on aggregate. Arsene Wenger's side have not made any significant signings in the summer transfer market so far. Many are wondering if the current Arsenal side have what it takes to compete for one of the top spots in the EPL and also the UCL. In the UCL, Aresenal have been drawn into a very tough group featuring Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli.

Tottenham have had a solid start to the new season. They won their first two games vs. Swansea 1-0 and Crystal Palace 0-1, and in the UEFA Europa League, they eliminated Dinamo Tbilisi 8-0 on aggregate. The Spurs have been very active in the summer transfer market. With the proceeds from the imminent sale of Gareth Bale, Andre Villas-Boas made several successful purchases. Roberto Soldado, Erik Lamela and Paulinho are the three most expensive additions to the squad.
