Diaz, Woodley Current Favourites To Fight Conor McGregor Next

Bad news for Khabib Nurmagomedov - according to oddsmakers, Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley are currently the two favourites to land the next fight against Conor McGregor.

Nurmagomedov, who thoroughly trashed Michael Johnson at UFC 205 to seemingly earn a shot at the title, has said that he will not fight again in the UFC unless his next fight is against Conor McGregor for the Lightweight title. McGregor, on the other hand, has been dismissive of Nurmagomedov, saying that the Lightweight contender is too fragile and injures too easily, making him unreliable for a major title fight.

As of this moment, the trilogy fight against Nate Diaz at 155 pounds is the leading contender to be signed next according to the oddsmakers, as the odds currently sit at +175. McGregor alluded to a possible trilogy fight against Diaz next, and the fight would sell itself and do very well at the box office. Diaz has said that he only wants to fight McGregor next, which puts this fight as the leading contender to be made next.

Here are the complete betting odds for McGregor's next fight:

Nate Diaz, +175
Tyron Woodley, +300
Khabib Nurmagomedov, +400
Jose Aldo, +500
Nick Diaz, +650
Georges St. Pierre, +700
Tony Ferguson, +750
Max Holloway, +1000
Frankie Edgar, +3000
Stephen Thompson, +3500

There is always the chance that McGregor could elect to move up to 170 pounds to challenge Woodley for the title, though I think that he will stay at 155 pounds for now. Woodley and Thompson need to have their rematch first - I could see McGregor challenging the winner next.

In addition, the odds of McGregor dropping to Featherweight to fight Aldo or Holloway or Edgar seem remote at best - the cut to 145 pounds is very hard on McGregor's body, and I really can't see him making the cut ever again in his career.

The fights against Nate Diaz and Georges St. Pierre just don't see likely to happen, though both fights would have a tremendous amount of appeal. Instead, the odds are much higher than Nick Diaz and St. Pierre would fight each other instead.
