Betting Lines and Picks - Final Round of Champions League Qualifiers - 2nd Leg

Published on August 23rd, 2011
Its back to the Champions League qualifiers tonight with five ties scheduled to be played. Not an easy betting night as the stakes are high with the winning teams heading to the lucrative group stages of the European premier competition.

Dinamo Zagreb and Bayern Munich have already secured their birth in the group stage with the wins against Malmo and Zurich respectively in their last matches, with Dinamo winning at home 4 : 1 and Bayern winning comfortably at home 2 : 0.

On these two games tonight one should expect a straight forward win for Bayern which pays 1,60 to a dollar, and expect betters across the world to circle this one as Bayern will not risk missing the group stage at any point tonight. As far as Malmo vs. Dinamo game is concerned the pay for Dinamo’s win is 2,55 to a dollar and if anyone had a chance to see the last game then you will know that the tie in Zagreb last week could have easily seen two or three more goals in the net of the Swedish champions. We don’t see them improving much tonight at their home stadium and thus expect Dinamo to win this away tie as well.

The other three games are much tougher to call so let’s start with a Genk vs. Maccabi game in Belgium. The first game saw Maccabi win 2:1 at home even though both sides had number of chances, and perhaps Genk even being a better side offensively. The game could have gone either way last week and had Maccabi not scored early last week, Genk would probably not have gone home undefeated. Genk is a better team, prepared for European competitions and should not pass this opportunity tonight in front of their home fans. Look for them to win with a 1:0 score tonight and book their ticket for the Champions league.

Apoel vs. Wisla will be a closely contested tie and although Wisla won the last game at home, Apoel plays well at home in the summer heat of Cyprus. They also had their chances last week to equalize ahead of the return tie, but they couldn’t catch a lucky break. Bookies are favoring Apoel tonight and for a reason, we believe, as they truly are a better side in this tie. The spread is 1,9 on Apoel and this is the bet which seems to make all the sense tonight.

Villareal vs. Odense tie last week caught a lot of the betters off guard as everyone had written this one off for a certain away win to Villareal. It wasn’t to be tough as the Danes won 1:0 and will be looking tonight to make the biggest upset in European young season so far. Still if we look back at the last week’s tie where Villareal had a possession for 62% of the game, out-shot and outplayed their counterparts, one should expect an easy redemption tonight at El Madrigal stadium. Still the spread is only 1,25 on Villareal win, so our pick will be to play the corners Over (bookies are offering -10,5+). Look for more than 10 corners tonight at El Madrigal as Villareal will attack early and will keep attacking till the end.

So our picks as described above:
