The city of Dallas has a long tennis tradition. For decades it was a U.S. powerhouse, hosting invitational and pro events, most notably the World Championship Tennis (WCT) Finals from 1971 to 1989. After years without an ATP stop, the modern Dallas Open returned in 2022 and momentum has been building since.
Dallas Open tennis tournament:The Dallas Open is an annual men's ATP event held in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Founded in 2022 following relocation from New York, it is one of the earliest tour stops each season, staged in early February. Beginning in 2025, the Dallas Open was upgraded from ATP 250 to ATP 500 status and moved to the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco.
2025 winner:
Denis Shapovalov defeated Casper Ruud 7-6(5), 6-3 in the singles final to claim the 2025 title. In doubles, Christian Harrison and Evan King won the championship, defeating Ariel Behar and Robert Galloway 7-6(4), 7-6(4).
History:
Dallas hosted an ATP tournament in 1983 (the Paine Webber Classic), staged that September as a replacement for the Denver Open. Separately, the city was home to the WCT year-end Finals from 1971 to 1989. The current Dallas Open arrived after the Memphis Open (1975-2017) was relocated to New York as the New York Open (2018-2020) and then moved again to Dallas, where the event launched in 2022.
Status and format:
As of 2025 the Dallas Open is an ATP 500 tournament featuring men's singles and doubles. The event previously ran as an ATP 250 from 2022 through 2024. A Women's Tennis Classic exhibition was scheduled for February 4, 2023, originally announced as Venus Williams vs Danielle Collins (subsequent changes occurred due to withdrawals).
