The ATP Bastad event, aka the The Nordea Open, was conceived back in 1948 and has long been a player favorite tournament, having been voted the best tournament by players from 2002 - 2011.

The Swedish Open tennis tournament, also known as ATP Bastad and The Nordea Open is played on clay courts.  In photo: Dominic Thiem returning a serve.The ATP 250 event, which is played on the clay courts at the Bastad Tennisstadion, features a total prize pool of €534,555.

The tournament marks return to the European clay court season, after one month of play on grass courts.

The main draw is made up of 28 players, as well as 16 doubles teams and 16 players taking part in the singles qualifying tournament.

Although Swedish players won this event 16 times in the past, the last Swedish winner was 11 years ago in 2011 when Robin Soderling beat David Ferrer for his second title in his home tournament.

Some of the bigger names that participated in the 2023 event included Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Diego Schwartzman and Roberto Bautista Agut.
