History:

The Inaugural edition of the Dubai Tennis Championships was held in 1993. Back then, it had the status of the ATP 250 series. However, in 2001 the status of the premier tennis tournament was elevated to ATP 500 Series.

The Inaugural Women's event was held in 2001 as part of the WTA tour. Over the years, it has alternated between WTA 500 and WTA 1000 events.

The American Tennis Star Venus Williams won the Dubai Tennis Championships three times. Her victories came in 2009, 2010, and 2014.
