New York is a massive new market for online sports betting. Mobile sports betting is finally coming to the state of New York.

If you are a New York resident, the days of popping over to New Jersey to place your bets will be over as of Saturday, January 8th.

As of that day, four providers - Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel and Rush Street Interactive - will be able to begin offering mobile sports wagering to residents of New York, as well as visitors to the state.

These four licensees have all satisfied the requirements to begin offering mobile sports betting in New York.

Five other conditionally licensed Mobile Sports Wagering Operators are still working through the paperwork to begin operations in the state.

New York is expected to be a massive market for legal sports betting in the United States, and all four of these approved operators are likely salivating to begin operations in the state.

While these four operators won't necessarily begin operating in the state of New York as of Saturday, January 8th, 2022 (9 am EST), I wouldn't be surprised if they are all ready at that time, as the rush for market share in the state will be a competitive one, and nobody wants to fall behind the competition.

There are currently 18 states that offer legal online sports betting, and a number more are expected to join the fray in 2022.

California, Texas and Florida remain the biggest states where online sports betting is not yet legal - Florida is the closest, though they are currently mired in a legal mess that has halted legal sports betting in the state.
