Top Player Transfers Ranked by Fees Paid - January 2014

On this page we will update the top football transfers in the January 2014 winter transfer window.

There is usually significantly less action in the winter transfer window, compared to the summer transfer window. The number one reason for this is that the winter transfer window is shorter. Another reason, which applies to the elite teams playing in European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, is that players who have played in Europe already are not allowed to play in the same competition again for a different team during the same season. Having said that, some of the highest transfers in football history, like the transfers of Fernando Torres, Andy Carrol, Lucas, Edin Dzeko etc., were done in January.
