Game Preview: AS Monaco vs. Lyon - French Ligue 1 - October 27th, 2013

French Ligue 1 Matchup - AS Monaco vs. Lyon - Team LogosSecond place AS Monaco meet eleventh place Lyon in the eleventh round of French Ligue 1 on Sunday, October 27th, 2013 at Stade Louis II.

AS Monaco and PSG seem to be the only true contenders for the Ligue 1 title this season. Monaco, who are two points behind PSG in the tables, are undefeated so far with six wins and four draws. In their last match they drew away with Sochaux 2-2.

Lyon finished third in Ligue 1 last season and had a decent run in the UEFA Europa League making it to the round of 32. This year things are not clicking. Lyon lost to Montpellier 5-1 on October 6th and then drew with Bordeaux 1-1 at home on October 20th. Most recently, in the UEFA Europa League, Lyon got their first tournament win against Rijeka (Croatia) beating them 1-0 at home.

AS Monaco are thriving with the expensive summer additions of James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho, Falcao etc., while in the same time Lyon are struggling after selling their star players Dejan Lovren and Lisandro Lopez and failing to bring adequate replacements.

Let's take a look at the odds for the upcoming match at Stade Louis II:

Monaco: 2/5
Draw: 10/3
Lyon: 15/2

AS Monaco are the heavy favourites to win on Sunday. A 100 € bet on the hosts could return 40 € in profit, while the same bet on Lyon could return 750 € in profit.

Radamel Falcao is the favourite to score for Monaco at 4/5 and Bafetimbi Gomis is the favourite to score for Lyon at 3/1.

AS Monaco are looking for all three points here to stay within reach of PSG. Lyon, who used to rule Ligue 1 a few seasons ago, are probably just looking to hang on.

The kick-off is at 6pm local time.

Let's see how things play out.
