Is the Battle of Britain finally going to happen?

After nearly a decade of near misses, the answer appears to be yes.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have been linked since 2017, when both men held world heavyweight titles. A fight for the undisputed crown was all but agreed in 2021 before an arbitration ruling forced Fury into a third fight with Deontay Wilder, and the window closed.

The two men then took very different paths. Fury retired in January of 2025 after back to back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. Joshua was knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September of 2024 and spent more than a year out of the ring before returning to knock out Jake Paul in December of 2025.

In April of 2026, the fight was announced. Fury came out of retirement on April 11th and took a decision from Arslanbek Makhmudov, then called Joshua out from the ring, saying that he would only continue fighting to settle the score with his old rival. Later that month, The Ring and Turki Alalshikh confirmed that a deal was in place, and promoter Eddie Hearn declared the fight signed, sealed and delivered.

As of late June, the venue and exact date had still not been confirmed, with the fight expected to land in late 2026 as part of Riyadh Season. Joshua is first scheduled for a warm up fight against Kristian Prenga on July 25th in Riyadh.
