The Cotswold Chase is part of the Festival Trials Day, which is an important day that features trials for the upcoming Cheltenham Festival in March.

The race was first run in 1980, when it was won by Raffi Nelson, and it has been run in all but three years since. In 1987, 1992 and 1996, the race was abandoned due to frost.

This is a Grade 2 National Hunt steeplechase.


The reigning champion is Ahoy Senor, who won the race in 2023. Ahoy Senor was trained by Lucinda Russell, and the jockey was Derek Fox.

Prior to that, the team of Nico de Boinville and Nicky Henderson had won 2 out of 3 races, as Santini won in 2020, while Chantry House won in 2022.
