He was nicknamed "Keano" very early in his footballing days. It is just a short version of his last name. That is how he was often called by teammates, fans and media throughout his career.

Roy Keane was a leader on the pitch and a fierce competitor. He was physically strong, aggressive and he worked relentlessly on the field. His tackling was awesome and he never shied away from a challenge or a battle on the pitch.

He captained both his club team, Manchester United, and the Republic of Ireland national team.

Roy Keane won one Champions League and seven English Premier League titles in his 12 years at the Old Trafford, where he played under the famous manager sir Alex Ferguson and alongside stars such as Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.
