Sports Nicknames - Mr Chelsea

Mason Mount is one of the most exciting young aspects to come through the English ranks in some time. The midfielder has played for Chelsea FC since he was six, with only a couple of loan spells interrupting that timeline.

Mount was immediately seen as a real talent, despite Chelsea's lack of promotion through the youth ranks in the 2000s. Mount made an appearance for the U-18 team as a U-15 player in 2013. He would become a regular in these sides by the 2016-17 season, scoring 10 goals in 30 appearances.

Mount joined Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in 2017 after signing a new contract with Chelsea, appearing in 29 matches and instantly becoming a core part of the team. This would be a similar case the next season, when Chelsea legend Frank Lampard signed him on another loan at Derby County in the English Championship.

It is widely believed that Lampard had a large impact on Mount and was a crucial part of his integration into the Chelsea first team in the 2019-20 season. With the transfer ban affecting Chelsea, they turned to youth products like Mount, Tammy Abraham and Reece James.

Even in the current season (2020/21), Mount continues to prove himself a key part of Chelsea's squad. His work rate is often highlighted, but he has shown fantastic technical ability and vision under current manager Thomas Tuchel. As of the time of writing, he scored the winner at Anfield to hand Liverpool their 5th consecutive defeat at home for the first time in history.

At only 22, Mount clearly has Chelsea flowing through his veins. While he has some way to go to match up to legends like Lampard and John Terry, Mount has most certainly gotten a good start on that path.
