Sports Nicknames - Borz



Khamzat Chimaev is the Chechnyan-born UFC fighter that has taken the promotion by storm.

Chimaev, who fights in the Welterweight division, was born in Beno-Yurt, Chechnya on May 1st, 1994. Chimaev would later immigrate to Sweden with his mother when he was 18 years of age.

Chimaev picked up the nickname "Borz", which translates into "wolf" in Chechen.

"Borz" is also a term for all of the improvised submachine guns that were produced in the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria between 1992 and 1999.

Seeing as how he was born in Chechnya, Chimaev has now incorporated this as his nickname.

Chimaev, as mentioned, is one of the most feared fighters that the UFC has ever seen.

Chimaev won 4 of his first 5 fights in the UFC via stoppage, with three of his wins coming in the first round.

Chimaev had his first big step up in competition when he fought Gilbert Burns, who was a former title contender. "Borz" survived the tough challenge, winning the fight via unanimous decision.

Chimaev has an insane work ethic and a wrestling base that allows him to keep most of his opponents guessing.

When "Borz" gets you to the ground, bad things usually happen.

In addition, Chimaev has proven to be a more-than-capable striker, as he has already scored some vicious knockouts in the UFC.
