Schweinsteiger was the brain of the German national team as well as the football club Bayern Munich for many years. He was a complete player. Tactically supreme and indispensable. He could shoot from range, cross and deliver from set-pieces. Physically he was powerful. He was the midfield engine. In Germany he was nicknamed "Fußballgott", which translates to Football God.

Bastian played in the central midfield role from where he masterminded and controlled the tempo of the game with his tactical awareness, positioning and passing. He controlled the game even when he was not in the possession of the ball. And when he had the ball, the opposing players could not take it away.

The highlight of Bastian's career was winning the German player of the year award in 2013 as well as winning the World Cup in 2014, where he was one of the most important players for his nation. In the tournament final he was the one guarding Lionel Messi in the game against Argentina.

Towards the end of his career Schweinsteiger also played for Manchester United and had a brief stint in the MLS. His other nicknames were "Schweini" and "Mr. Calm", because he always kept his cool under pressure.
