Sports Nicknames - Baby Horse

Alex Morgan is one of the most influential women footballers of the modern day. Part of this comes from her successful playing career, but part of it also comes from the numerous endorsements and commercial ventures she has made over the years.

Morgan showed her footballing prowess very early, being named All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in high school. She was called up to the United States U-20 national team at 17, although she suffered an ACL injury when doing so.

Morgan went pro in 2011, although she wouldn't stay at any one team for too long. She played for the Western New York Flash, Seattle Sounders Women, Portland Thorns and Orlando Pride. She made a brief move to Olympique Lyon (winning the league and Champions League) before returning to Orlando. In 2020, she made another move to Europe, this time to Tottenham Hotspur's women's team.

It's on the international stage that Alex Morgan is most known for. She picked up the nickname "Baby Horse" in her early appearances in the 2011 World Cup. She was the youngest member of the squad and her long legs reminded people of a horse galloping. Morgan would lose the 2011 World Cup, but help the United States win the 2015 and 2019 editions of the competition. She has also helped the USA win 2 CONCACAF Women's Championships and the 2012 Olympics, along with a multitude of individual awards.

Often held up as one of the icons of the dominant United States women's football team over the last decade, Morgan has most certainly left her mark on the field and off of it. At the time of writing, she is 31, and still has time to make a large impact on whatever team she plays for.
