It can be easy to forget that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is still just the tender age of 28.

Canelo is regarded as one of the best boxers of his generation. Boxer preparing his hands for the fight in photo.Alvarez fought his first professional fight when he was just 14 years of age, and has since gone on to compile a near-perfect record of 51-1-2, with 35 of his wins coming via knockout.

The Mexican-born fighter has fought some of the biggest names in boxing over the course of his career, including two fights against Gennady Golovkin (one draw, one win) and one fight against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (majority decision loss).

The Mayweather fight remains the lone blemish on Canelo's record, as he has also beaten the likes of Shane Mosley, Amir Khan and Miguel Cotto.

If not for Floyd Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez would likely be regarded as one of the top fighters of his generation.

After his second fight against GGG, Alvarez signed a lucrative deal with streaming site DAZN, and the Jacobs fight will be the second fight on the deal. The first fight was a lopsided win against Rocky Fielding in December of 2018. In reality, with two fights against GGG under his belt and Floyd Mayweather currently in "retirement", there is really nobody compelling for Canelo to fight at the moment, unless he is willing to move weight classes or somebody is willing to make the move themselves. After taking GGG out of the equation, Jacobs is the highest ranked fighter at Middleweight.

Alvarez employs high-volume output in order to wear down his opponents. Alvarez has a deep gas tank and can easily go 12 rounds without an issue.

Here are Canelo's odds for his last five fights:

vs Rocky Fielding (1.06)
vs GGG (2.55)
vs GGG (2.50)
vs Chavez Jr. (1.24)
vs Liam Smith (1.07)

Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs Betting Thoughts:

Canelo will be looking to do what he normally does against Daniel Jacobs - counterpunch and work the body.

As the fight gets into the later rounds, expect Daniel Jacobs to take wilder swings, which will play right to Canelo's strengths, which is avoiding the big shots and scoring points with his counterattacks.

Scoring a knockout punch is not really Canelo's style, especially against a skilled fighter like Daniel Jacobs. This should be a classic Canelo fight, with plenty of sticking and moving, much like the one fighter that Alvarez has lost to - Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Despite his long resume, Canelo doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon, so I don't anticipate that he will have any issues against Daniel Jacobs.
