It’s the first of two regular season games between Houston and Washington, and the Rockets will be looking to come home in control. Last season the Wizards hosted first as well, but were unable to avoid the November 21st 103-91 loss. They had better luck in part two on the road, winning the December 29th game 89-87 to end the season tied with their foes. Founded in 1967 as the NBA’s San Diego Rockets and relocated to Houston four years later, the visiting team earned its 4th division championship in 1994, 4th conference championship in 1995, and 2nd league championship also in 1995. The Houston Rockets have advanced to postseason play 26 times including one playoff appearance out of San Diego, most recently completing a seven-game run against the Los Angeles Lakers in last year’s conference semifinals.

Here’s a look at where the Rockets and the Wizards stand at this point in the season.

HOUSTON ROCKETS

5th in the Southwest Division and 11th in the Western Conference, Houston has won 30 and lost 30. The Rockets are 17-14 at home, 13-16 away, and 3-7 for the last ten, and at this time have a one-game losing streak. Point guard Aaron Brooks leads in offense and is the team’s helping hand with 19.8 points per game and 305 assists, forward-center Luis Scola is a hawk on the ball with 510 rebounds, and small forward Shane Battier won’t let a thing through with 66 blocked shots.

WASHINGTON WIZARDS

5th in the Southeast Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference, Washington has won 21 and lost 37. The Wizards are 12-18 at home, 9-19 away, and 5-5 for the last ten, and at this time have a one-game losing streak. Point guard Gilbert Arenas leads in offense and is the team’s helping hand with 22.6 points per game and 230 assists, and forward-center Andray Blatche is a hawk on the ball and won’t let a thing through with 335 rebounds and 55 blocked shots.

The Rockets and the Wizards are scheduled to meet once more after this, a battle at the Toyota Center on March 30th.

Houston finished last season 2nd in its division and 5th in its conference with a 53-29 record. The Rockets eliminated the Portland Trail Blazers in game six of round one before being stopped by the LA Lakers in game seven of round two in the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

Washington finished 2008-09 5th in its division and 15th in its conference with a 19-63 record.
