Event – 2010 Winter Games Closing Ceremonies
Time & Date – 5:30 pm, Sunday, February 28th, 2010
Venue – BC Place Stadium, Vancouver, British Columbia
Every four years winter sport is put on display, and it’s not just you or I but the whole world that watches. The celebration of cooperative competition in athletics has a mountain of strengths next to a few faults far between, and though female ski jumpers have yet to earn Olympic recognition, they happen to be the last ladies awaiting inclusion to the Winter Games with 13 out of the 15 disciplines gloriously egalitarian already.
Picturing seven sports divided into 15 disciplines and further divided into 86 events that include an estimated 2,500 athletes from more than 80 nations makes it hard to believe that a 17-day period is all it takes, but it’s true. A little more than two weeks, and Olympians that have trained for years find out if they get to take home a souvenir.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 12th, followed by 15 days of nonstop action. Once 258 Olympic medals find their homes with the world’s top athletes jumping for joy and the rest of the world’s top athletes scratching their heads and gearing up to start again, the closing ceremony will merge the remarkable mélange with individual acknowledgment honoring every competitor’s achievement as a symbol of endurance and a stepping stone to greatness.

Six sports divided into nine disciplines and further divided into 16 events made up these inaugural games, and 16 nations collectively sent 258 athletes to determine 1924’s limits. Including one tie, 49 medals were awarded to ten countries. Norway earned the most and was also ranked highest with 4 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze, Finland came in second with 4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze, and Austria landed third with 2 gold and 1 silver. Canada finished eighth after securing one medal, a gold in – surprise, surprise – ice hockey.
