Event – UFC Fight Night: Maynard vs. Diaz

Time & Date – 6:15 pm, Monday, January 11th, 2010

Venue – Patriot Center, Fairfax, Virginia

Virginia gets a visit from the UFC on January 11th, and the promotion’s 20th Fight Night features a medley of eager athletes.

A pair of lightweights upgrade from an exhibition match to one with pro record consequence in the main event. Maynard challenges Diaz in an attempt to redeem himself after The Ultimate Fighter season five winner forced a round two submission in the reality show’s semifinals.

The co-main event pits professionally undefeated season eight lightweight winner Escudero against fellow unbeaten lightweight warrior Dunham. Both fighters have won the majority of their battles via submission.

Then there’s the middleweight with a winning streak intent on handing out a first-time loss, and the season seven winner determined to defeat a hardened welterweight in both fighters’ fourth outing to the Octagon.

And that’s just the main card.

Seven preliminary bouts are already scheduled to get you in the mood, and there’s a good chance you’ll be satisfied before they’re through.

Wish you could witness the hungry talent of UFC’s young guns as they battle in the first Fight Night of the year? Well, you can! Craigslist and eBay are options, but, if you don’t want to look like a fool, StubHub is where you need to go.

All StubHub tickets come with a 100% money-back guarantee, and professional customer service is available online and via toll-free telephone every day of the week.

If your tickets are late, not what you ordered, get you turned away from the gate, or can’t be used because of a cancelled event that won’t be rescheduled, a live and friendly StubHub agent gets things fixed or gives you a full refund.

StubHub offers a variety of delivery options so that you don’t have to meet J. Stalker to pick up what you’ve paid for, and Last Minute Services is there for you around the clock.

Plus, last but not least, StubHub is officially endorsed by the UFC.

Here’s a closer look at 20’s fight card.

MAYNARD VS. DIAZ

Maynard and Diaz meet for their first career contest in this lightweight bout. Maynard most recently earned a decision win and plans to keep his perfect record, while Diaz most recently banked submission of the night honors and snapped a two-fight losing streak.

30-year-old Gray “The Bully” Maynard began his MMA career in April of 2006 when he put Josh Powell to sleep in the first round at Title Fighting Championship 1. His most recent bout co-headlined UFC Fight Night 19: Diaz vs. Guillard on September 16th of last year where he defeated Roger Huerta via split decision. Maynard’s 8 wins include two knockouts and six decisions, and he shares 1 no contest with Robert Emerson. Maynard has no losses thus far. Born in Arizona and fighting out of Nevada, Maynard participated regularly in high school and college wrestling, entered MMA in 2006 and currently trains with Xtreme Couture, names Randy Couture, Tom Brands, and Randy Aleman as his heroes, and spent time in real estate before becoming a professional fighter.

24-year-old Nate Diaz began his MMA career in October of 2004 when he forced Alex Garcia to submit in the third round at WEC 12: Halloween Fury 3. His most recent bout headlined UFC Fight Night 19 on September 16th of last year where he added another submission win to his record by defeating Melvin Guillard in round two. Diaz’s 11 wins include two technical knockouts, eight submissions, and one decision, while one submission and three decisions make up his 4 losses. Born in and fighting out of California, Diaz entered martial arts at an early age following in the footsteps of older brother Nick, currently trains with Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and holds a black belt in BJJ, joined the UFC after his victory in The Ultimate Fighter 5, and names his brother, training partners, and the Gracie family as his heroes.

Will Maynard surprise us with a submission, or will Diaz deliver his foe’s first loss?

ESCUDERO VS. DUNHAM

This lightweight bout pits Escudero against Dunham for the first time. Escudero won his first technical knockout in his last appearance and hopes to remain undefeated, while Dunham won his second decision in his last appearance and is also looking to remain undefeated.

23-year-old Efrain “Hecho en Mexico” Escudero began his MMA career in June of 2006 when he forced Chris Collado to submit in the first round at RITC 83: Rampage. His most recent bout took place at UFC 103: Franklin vs. Belfort on September 19th of last year where he earned a round one technical knockout win against Cole Miller. Born in Oregon and fighting out of Nevada, Dunham devoted himself to mixed martial arts after his first amateur bout, currently trains with Xtreme Couture and holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, names his dad as his hero, and has an undergraduate degree in sociology with a minor in business.

Unless it ends in a draw, only one of these two fighters will maintain a flawless record. Will it be Escudero, or will it be Dunham?

LAWLOR VS. SIMPSON

Lawlor faces Simpson for the first time in this middleweight bout. Lawlor most recently banked submission of the night honors and extended his winning streak to three fights, while Simpson most recently earned a technical knockout win and has yet to be defeated.

27-year-old Tom “The Filthy Mauler” Lawlor began his MMA career in March of 2007 by sharing a no contest with Ariel Gandulla at Kick Enterprises. His most recent bout took place at UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir II on July 11th of last year where he forced C.B. Dolloway to submit in the first round. Lawlor’s 6 wins include one knockout, one technical knockout, three submissions, and one decision; a disqualification win for Shane Primm due to an illegal knee gives him his 1 loss; and he shares 1 no contest. Will Lawlor win his fourth in a row, or will Simpson go on invincible?

SADOLLAH VS. BLACKBURN

This welterweight bout pairs Sadollah and Blackburn for the first time. Sadollah is coming off a decision win ready to better his 2-1 professional record, while Blackburn is coming off a decision win happy to be 3-0 in the UFC.

29-year-old Amir Sadollah began his MMA career in June of 2008 when he forced C.B. Dolloway to submit in the first round at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale. His most recent bout took place at UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II on November 21st of last year where he defeated Phil Baroni via unanimous decision. Sadollah’s 2 wins come from the Dolloway submission and the Baroni decision, while a contentious round one technical knockout win for Johny Hendricks gives him his 1 loss. Born in New York and fighting out of Virginia, Sadollah entered martial arts to stay in shape, currently trains with Xtreme Couture and holds the equivalent of a black belt in sambo, joined the UFC after his victory in The Ultimate Fighter 7, values generosity and names his family and training partners among others as his heroes, has an undergraduate degree in surgical technology, and worked as a technician before becoming a professional fighter.

Blackburn’s 15 wins include three knockouts, five technical knockouts, three submissions, and four decisions; his 9 losses include one knockout, one technical knockout, one submission, and six decisions; and he shares 1 draw with Matt Wurstner and 1 no contest with Travis Cox. Born in California and fighting out of Washington, Blackburn boxed initially, has ten years of MMA experience and currently trains with Victory Athletics, values hard work and dedication and admires anyone with these traits, and worked as a loan officer before becoming a professional fighter.

Both fighters face their fourth official UFC bout; will Sadollah improve his record to match his opponent, or will Blackburn be twice as good in the books?

With appetizers galore set for January 11th, the seven tasty undercard bouts might leave you wondering what you’re waiting for.
