Here’s a closer look at Miami’s lineup.

DIAZ VS. ZAROMSKIS

Two southpaws vie for the welterweight title in one of Miami’s main events. Diaz boasts five straight victories after a rear naked choke kept his streak alive and intends to reach 3-0 in his new promotion, while Zaromskis has also won five in a row with a head kick keeping him afloat and is eager to make his Strikeforce debut.

26-year-old Nick Diaz began his MMA career in August of 2001 when he forced Mike Wick to submit in the first round at IFC Warriors Challenge 15. His most recent bout took place at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields on June 6th of last year where he added another submission to his record by finishing Scott Smith in round three. Diaz’s 20 wins include two knockouts, nine technical knockouts, six submissions, and three decisions; his 7 losses include two technical knockouts and five decisions; and he shares 1 no contest with Takanori Gomi. Diaz has attained two titles, and defended once. Born in and fighting out of California, Diaz entered martial arts as a teenager, currently trains with Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and holds a black belt in BJJ, and thanks his mother for enrolling him in swimming lessons where he developed and learned how to maintain a strong cardiovascular system at a young age.

29-year-old Marius “Raging Demon” Zaromskis began his MMA career in February of 2000 when he put Viktoras Kontrimas to sleep at Knight of the Ring 6. His most recent bout took place at Dream 12: The Cage of the Rising Sun on October 25th of last year where he added another knockout to his record by finishing Myeon Ho Bae in round one. Zaromskis’ 13 wins include five knockouts, six technical knockouts, one submission, and one decision, while two knockouts and one technical knockout make up his 3 losses. He has attained one title. Born in Lithuania and fighting out of England, Zaromskis currently trains with London Shootfighters and excels in kickboxing.

They’ll be meeting face to face for the first time in this championship bout, and only one will walk out with the belt and a six-fight winning streak. Will it be Diaz, or will it be Zaromskis?

SANTOS VS. COENEN

The women’s lightweight crown is on the line in this co-main event. Santos heads into her first title defense after a barrage of punches gave her a belt and an eight-fight winning streak, while Coenen finds herself one step away from reaching the top after an armbar stopped her from losing two in a row.

24-year-old Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos began her MMA career in May of 2005 when Erica Paes forced her to submit in the first round at Show Fight 2. Her most recent bout headlined Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg on August 15th of last year where she earned her trophy by defeating Gina via round one technical knockout. Santos’ 8 wins include six technical knockouts and 2 decisions, while the Paes submission is her only loss. Born in and fighting out of Brazil, Santos currently trains with Chute Box Academy and holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and enjoyed playing handball at the national level before dedicating herself to mixed martial arts.

28-year-old Marloes “Rumina” Coenen began her MMA career in November of 2000 when she forced Yuuki Kondo to submit in the first round at LLPW – L-1 2000: The Strongest Lady. Her most recent bout took place at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers on November 7th of last year where she added another submission to her record by finishing Roxanne Modafferi in round one. Coenen’s 17 wins include one knockout, two technical knockouts, twelve submissions, and two decisions, while one knockout and two decisions make up her 3 losses. Born in and fighting out of the Netherlands, Coenen grew up with martial arts enthusiasts, was passionately dedicated to the sport by the age of fourteen, and currently trains with Golden Glory.

Meeting for the first time in this title fight, only one of these two athletes get to take home the prize. Will Santos continue her reign as the very first Strikeforce women’s champ, or will Coenen have what it takes to dethrone her?

LAWLER VS. MANHOEF

Lawler and Manhoef are paired for the first time in this middleweight co-main event. Lawler is determined to redeem himself after a guillotine choke spoiled his Strikeforce debut and ended his five-fight winning streak, while a set of relentless blows snapped a one-fight losing streak and made Manhoef ready to prove why he’s just been signed.

27-year-old Robbie “Ruthless” Lawler began his MMA career in April of 2001 when he earned a round one technical knockout against John Reed at Extreme Challenge 39. His most recent bout headlined Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields on June 6th of last year where Jake forced him to submit in the first round. Lawler’s 16 wins include five knockouts, eight technical knockouts, one submission, and two decisions; his 5 losses include one knockout and four submissions; and he shares 1 no contest with Scott Smith. Lawler has attained three titles, and defended twice. Born in California and fighting out of Illinois, Lawler currently trains with HIT Squad and excels in boxing.

33-year-old Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef began his MMA career in December of 1995 when he earned a round two technical knockout against Jordy Jonkers at Battle of Amstelveen. His most recent bout took place at K-1: Dynamite!! Power of Courage 2009 on December 31st where he added another technical knockout to his record by finishing Kazuo Misaki in the first round. Manhoef’s 24 wins include nine knockouts, fourteen technical knockouts, and one decision; his 6 losses include one knockout, one technical knockout, and four submissions; and he shares 1 draw with Rodney Glunder. Manhoef has attained one title, and defended twice. Born in Suriname and fighting out of the Netherlands, Manhoef currently trains with Mike’s Gym and has extensive experience in Muay Thai.

Will a knockout end this contest, or will one of these two boxers surprise us with a submission?

WALKER VS. NAGY

This heavyweight co-main event pits Walker against Nagy for the first time. Walker is on the brink of beginning his MMA career, while Nagy is two fights in with a 1-1 record.

47-year-old Herschel Walker will make his professional MMA debut at Strikeforce: Miami against Nagy, and he’s doing it pro bono. Born in Georgia and fighting out of California, Walker entered martial arts at a young age, participated regularly in tournaments while in college, currently trains with American Kickboxing Academy and holds a black belt in taekwondo, and is excited to set out on his MMA journey. Acute competition is nothing new to Walker. He was a prominent athlete and the class valedictorian in high school, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner during his remarkable college football years at the University of Georgia, a professional running back from 1983 to 1997 when he was involved in one of the worst sports trades of all time, half of a two-man bobsled team that finished seventh at the 1992 Winter Olympics, and, to top it off, a 1999 College Football Hall of Fame inductee.

Greg Nagy began his MMA career in August of last year when he earned a round one technical knockout against Robert Principato at Rage in the Cage 132. He followed that up with his most recent bout at Rage in the Cage 136 on November 7th where a unanimous decision for Francisco Navarro left him defeated. Unproven Nagy is determined to better his record and start out successful in his new promotion.

Both fighters face their first Strikeforce battle and only one will have a triumphant debut. Will it be the rookie, or will it be the sophomore?

Alongside the talent found on Miami’s main card, six preliminary bouts are scheduled to get things started: four welterweights, one lightweight, and one featherweight.

WELTERWEIGHT

Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron vs. Joe “Diesel” Riggs

David Zitnik vs. Michael Byrnes

Sabah Homasi vs. John Kelly

Ryan Keenan vs. Hayder Hassan

LIGHTWEIGHT

Craig Oxley vs. David Gomez

FEATHERWEIGHT

Pablo “The Hurricane” Alfonso vs. Marcos “Parrumpinha” da Matta

Plus, a heavyweight bout between Bobby “The Boss” Lashley and Jimmy “The Titan” Ambriz is in the works and would mark each fighter’s Strikeforce debut.
