Here’s a look at how the New York Jets and the San Diego Chargers did in the 2009 regular season.
NEW YORK JETS
With a 9-7 record, the Jets finished 2nd in the AFC East and secured the #5 playoff seed in their conference. The offense put up 37 touchdowns with an average of 321 yards per game, while the defense let in only 26 touchdowns with an average of 252.3 yards per game. Quarterback Mark Sanchez was 196-of-364 for a 53.8 percent completion rate, running back Thomas Jones led in rushing with 1,402 yards, wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery led in receiving with 821 yards, and linebacker David Harris led in defense with 127 tackles.
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
With a 13-3 record, the Chargers finished 1st in the AFC West and secured the #2 playoff seed in their conference. The offense put up 51 touchdowns with an average of 360.1 yards per game, while the defense let in only 35 touchdowns with an average of 327 yards per game. Quarterback Philip Rivers was 317-of-486 for a 65.2 percent completion rate, running back LaDainian Tomlinson led in rushing with 730 yards, wide receiver Vincent Jackson led in receiving with 1,167 yards, and linebacker Stephen Cooper led in defense with 102 tackles.
