The all-Spanish final will be taking place at the Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon, Portugal. This will be the first time that Lisbon has hosted an European Cup final since 1967.
Real Madrid gained entrance to the finals after crushing Bayern Munich 5-0. Bayern Munich, who were the defending champions, were left completely shell-shocked as Cristiano Ronaldo and company ran roughshod over their club at home. Bayern Munich losing 4-0 at home? Nobody was expecting that.
Atletico Madrid took care of their business earlier today when they defeated Chelsea 3-1. After a 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid last week, the contest was basically a coin flip. Atletico Madrid took to the road on Wednesday, flexed their muscles and easily defeated the side from Chelsea. All Atletico Madrid needed to advance was a tie with a single goal scored, but they ended up winning with dramatic flair.
This sets up a battle between the two La Liga clubs who were in a pitched battle practically all season for league superiority. Atletico Madrid, which is currently 4 points ahead of Barcelona in La Liga, now has the chance to win their league title and the Champions League title.
