Arizona survived the first round of the playoffs, winning 51-45 in overtime against the visiting Green Bay Packers. Now the Cardinals head to Louisiana for round two, and the Saints haven’t had the pleasure of seeing them since 2007. New Orleans hosted the December 16th regular season game, and won 31-24.

Established in 1898 and officially playing since 1920, Arizona earned its 6th division title this season, its 1st conference title last season, and its 2nd league title in the 1947 season. The Cardinals entered their 8th postseason in the first round last Sunday. Their most recent playoff appearance occurred last season and ended unsuccessfully against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth and final round.

Established in and officially playing since 1967, New Orleans earned its 4th division title this season. The Saints enter their 7th postseason in the second round this Saturday. Their most recent playoff appearance occurred in the 2006 season and ended in the third round against the Chicago Bears.

Here’s a look at what Arizona and New Orleans did with the 2009 regular season.

ARIZONA CARDINALS

With a 10-6 record, the Cardinals finished 1st in the NFC West and secured the #4 playoff seed in their conference. The offense put up 46 touchdowns with an average of 344.4 yards per game, while the defense let in only 38 touchdowns with an average of 346.4 yards per game. Quarterback Kurt Warner was 339-of-513 for a 66.1 percent completion rate, running back Beanie Wells led in rushing with 793 yards, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald led in receiving with 1,092 yards, and linebacker Karlos Dansby led in defense with 109 tackles.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

With a 13-3 record, the Saints finished 1st in the NFC South and secured the #1 playoff seed in their conference. The offense put up 64 touchdowns with an average of 403.8 yards per game, while the defense let in only 37 touchdowns with an average of 357.8 yards per game. Quarterback Drew Brees was 363-of-514 for a 70.6 percent completion rate, running back Pierre Thomas led in rushing with 793 yards, wide receiver Marques Colston led in receiving with 1,074 yards, and linebacker Jonathan Vilma led in defense with 110 tackles.

With a 9-7 record, the Cardinals finished 1st in their division last season. Arizona hosted Atlanta and defeated the Falcons 30-24 in the wild card round, visited Carolina and defeated the Panthers 33-13 in the divisional round, and hosted Philadelphia and defeated the Eagles 32-25 for the conference championship before losing Super Bowl XLIII (43) 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Florida.

With an 8-8 record, the Saints finished the 2008 season 4th in their division.
