It wasn't supposed to be this way.

Up until the semi-finals of the Men's US Open, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer appeared to be on a collision course to meet in the finals. It would have been an appropriate final to cap off the year, as Djokovic and Federer have arguably been the two best men's tennis players on the tour so far this year.

As is often the case in sports, things didn't work out as planned.

Kei Nishikori astonished the sports world by beating Novak Djokovic in 4 sets in the semi-finals, while Marin Cilic made relatively easy work of Roger Federer, eliminating him in three sets. After the match, Cilic said that his match against Federer was likely the best tennis that he has ever played in his life.

So, after all of the smoke has cleared, we are left with Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic in the finals. Let's look at the odds:

Kei Nishikori, 1.80
Marin Cilic, 2.00

So, according to these odds, a successful $100 wager on Nishikori would yield a total profit of $80, while a successful $100 bet on Cilic would return an even $100.

Here are the set betting odds:

Kei Nishikori 3-0, 4.50
Kei Nishikori 3-1, 4.33
Kei Nishikori 3-2, 6.00

Marin Cilic 3-0, 6.00
Marin Cilic 3-1, 5.00
Marin Cilic 3-2, 6.50

The heat will almost surely be a big issue tomorrow night - which player will be able to grind it out and march on to the biggest victory of their careers?

This is a historic match, as it will mark the first time that an Asian-born player has appeared in the Men's US Open Finals. Can Nishikori write his chapter in history or will Cilic come out the victor?
