Bookmakers: Conor McGregor Would Have Virtually No Chance Against Mayweather

In recent weeks, talks of a potential boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. have heated up once again.

In the combat sports world, Mayweather vs McGregor is THE money fight, though they are many issues that are conspiring to hold it back, namely McGregor's contract with the UFC. In addition, Mayweather is notorious for negotiating the terms that he wants, so it seems unlikely that McGregor would agree to all of Mayweather's terms to make the fight happen.

There is no doubt that McGregor would absolutely smash Mayweather if the two fought inside of the Octagon. There is zero chance that such a fight would ever happen.

There is, however, a sliver of a chance that McGregor and Mayweather may box. If that happens, the bookmakers see practically no chance for McGregor to win.

Bookmakers have McGregor at anywhere from 4/1 to 11/1 to beat Mayweather, while Mayweather is listed at between 1/33 to 1/7.

McGregor has a number of weapons that he utilizes inside of the Octagon to defeat his opponents, including punches, kicks, knees and elbows. The boxing ring is Mayweather's world, however, and McGregor would have a very hard time against Mayweather.

After all, Mayweather is about defense and not getting hit. Could McGregor land on Mayweather enough over the course of a 12 round right to win? Could McGregor knock out Mayweather with boxing gloves? The answer to these questions is probably the same: no.

On the other hand, Mayweather has been fairly inactive as of late and is approaching 40 years old, while McGregor is still in his 20s. There is the possibility that Mayweather loses a step and gets clipped by McGregor, but this still seems unlikely.

At the end of the day, all of this talk is likely meaningless, as it seems very unlikely that the fight would ever happen, given all of the parties that would have to agree to terms.
