England 1/8 Favourites To Defeat Lithuania At Home on Sunday

World Cup qualifying action will continue this weekend when England plays host to Lithuania.

This is an important game for both clubs, though Lithuania will need a small miracle if they want to jumpstart their chances of making it through to the World Cup. As of this moment, Group F looks like this:

England, 10 points
Slovenia, 8 points
Slovakia, 6 points
Lithuania, 5 points
Scotland, 4 points
Malta, 0 points

The top team in each group automatically qualifies for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, while the second place team in each group will be entered into a second round play-off, where the top-ranked runners-up will square off to see who moves on to the World Cup.

As you can see, England would greatly bolster its chances of winning the group with a victory on Sunday, while Lithuania desperately needs a victory in order to keep their heads above water.

Oddsmakers aren't giving Lithuania much of a chance, as evidenced by those odds:

England, 1/8
Draw, 9/1
Lithuania, 25/1

Winning at home against England would be a stretch at best, though winning on the road might be next to impossible.

Here are the three likeliest results of Sunday's game:

England 2-0, 9/2
England 3-0, 9/2
England 1-0, 6/1

Jamie Vardy, Jermain Defoe and Marcus Rashford are seen as the likeliest scorers on Sunday, though I wouldn't expect any of these three men to see a full game's worth of action, as England will likely put this one away early.
