Event – 2009 C-USA Championship Game: Houston Cougars at East Carolina Pirates
Time & Date – 1 pm, Saturday, December 5th, 2009
Venue – Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, Greenville, North Carolina
The last time these two universities met in an on-field battle, it was September 27th of last year. The Pirates hosted the 41-24 game, and the Cougars went home the winners. This year they meet in Greenville again with a rather different prize up for grabs: conference glory.
Both teams have made it to the C-USA championship game once since its start in 2005. Houston won the title in 2006 after defeating the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 34-20, and East Carolina brought it home last year after defeating the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 27-24. The Pirates will be eager to make it two in a row on the 5th, but the Cougars will be just as hungry for second helpings.
On the field since 1946, Houston won its 1st division title and its 10th conference title in 2006. The Cougars have an 8-10-1 bowl games record and a .526 all-time winning percentage.
On the field since 1932, East Carolina won its 1st division title and its 6th conference title last year. The Pirates have an 8-6 bowl games record and a .512 all-time winning percentage.

Will Houston prove why it’s in the Top 25, or will East Carolina send the Cougars home confused?
Last year the Houston Cougars finished 3rd in their division with an 8-5 (6-2 C-USA) record. They played against the Air Force Falcons in the Armed Forces Bowl, and won 34-28.
The East Carolina Pirates finished 2008 1st in their division with a 9-5 (6-2 C-USA) record. They won 27-24 against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the 2008 C-USA Championship Game, but lost 19-25 against the Kentucky Wildcats in the Liberty Bowl.
