Atletico Madrid, which won La Liga last year after edging out both Real Madrid and Barcelona, lost both Diego Costa (Chelsea FC) and Luis Filipe (Chelsea FC) in the offseason. In is Mario Mandzukic, who will be looked upon to provide Athletico Madrid with some much needed offense as they attempt to defend their La Liga title this season.
According to the bookmakers, the odds of Atletico Madrid winning La Liga this season are quite long:
Real Madrid, 1.80
Barcelona, 2.10
Atletico Madrid, 11.00
The reason is simple - Real Madrid and Barcelona both improved their clubs this offseason while Atletico Madrid seems to have degraded. Atletico Madrid, though, has a tendency to outperform expectations, so they will still be an interesting side to watch this season.
