The 2016 running of the Ascot Gold Cup is set to take place on June 16th.

The Ascot Gold Cup, which is run at storied Ascot Racecourse in Ascot, England, is open to "stayers", which are horses that are bred to run for long distances. The run is a lengthy one, clocking in at a little over 4,000 meters.

Last year's winning horse was a 4 year-old named Trip to Paris, who finished the course in 4:22.61 to win the £212,663 first place prize. The horse, which was ridden by Graham Lee, was trained by Ed Dunlop and owned by La Grange Partnership.

The 2016 Gold Cup will honour the Queen's 90th birthday, so it will be an especially momentous celebration.

The Queen, as a matter of fact, has had 22 winning horses at the Ascot Gold Cup over the span of 60 years, with the most recent victory coming in 2013 with the horse "Estimate".

The current favourite to win this year's Ascot Gold Cup is "Order of St. George", who is listed at 3.00 to win. "Order of St. George" has nine starts over the course of its career, with 4 first place finishes and three second place finishes.
