With a history dating back to 1892, the Crimson Tide earned its 7th division title and 26th conference title this season, and is one step away from winning its 12th national title. Alabama has a 31-22-3 bowl games record and an all-time winning percentage of .712.
With a history dating back to 1893, the Longhorns earned their 6th division title and 31st conference title this season, and are one step away from winning their 5th national title. Texas has a 25-21-2 bowl games record and an all-time winning percentage of .721.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
The Crimson Tide finished 1st in the West Division and 1st in the Southeastern Conference with an Associated Press ranking of #1 and a 13-0 (8-0 SEC) record. The offense brought in 44 touchdowns and averaged 413.8 yards per game, while the defense allowed only 14 touchdowns and an average of 241.8 yards per game. Quarterback Greg McElroy completed 192 out of 314 passes for a 61.1 percent completion rate, running back Mark Ingram led in rushing with 1,542 yards, wide receiver Julio Jones reached the top of receiving with 573 yards, and defensive back Mark Barron was king with 7 interceptions in total.
TEXAS LONGHORNS
The Longhorns finished 1st in the South Division and 1st in the Big 12 Conference with an Associated Press ranking of #2 and a 13-0 (8-0 Big 12) record. The offense brought in 55 touchdowns and averaged 432.4 yards per game, while the defense allowed only 19 touchdowns and an average of 251.8 yards per game. Quarterback Colt McCoy completed 330 out of 468 passes for a 70.5 percent completion rate, running back Tre’ Newton led in rushing with 513 yards, wide receiver Jordan Shipley reached the top of receiving with 1,363 yards, and safety Earl Thomas was king with 8 interceptions in total.

Last season the Crimson Tide finished 1st in its division and 2nd in its conference with an Associated Press ranking of #6 and a 12-2 (8-0 SEC) record. Alabama was unsuccessful in the postseason, losing 31-20 to the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship Game and 31-17 to the Utah Utes in the Sugar Bowl.
The Longhorns finished 2008 tied for 1st in their division with an Associated Press ranking of #4 and a 12-1 (7-1 Big 12) record. Texas played against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl, and won 24-21.
