UTAH UTES
Ranked #23 by the Associated Press, Utah finished third in the Mountain West Conference with a 9-3 (6-2 MWC) record. The offense brought in 39 touchdowns and averaged 389.6 yards per game, while the defense allowed only 26 touchdowns and an average of 314.2 yards per game. Quarterback Terrance Cain completed 137-of-215 for a 63.7 percent completion rate, running back Eddie Wide led in rushing with a grand total of 1,032 yards, wide receiver David Reed reached the top of receiving with 1,085 yards, and defensive back Robert Johnson collected the most interceptions with 5 in total.
CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS
California finished tied for fifth in the Pacific 10 Conference with an 8-4 (5-4 Pac-10) record. The offense brought in 42 touchdowns and averaged 399 yards per game, while the defense allowed only 35 touchdowns and an average of 377.4 yards per game. Quarterback Kevin Riley completed 189-of-346 for a 54.6 percent completion rate, running back Jahvid Best led in rushing with a grand total of 867 yards, wide receiver Marvin Jones reached the top of receiving with 607 yards, and linebacker Mike Mohamed collected the most interceptions with 3 in total.

Last season the Utah Utes finished 1st in their conference with a 13-0 (8-0 MWC) record, and were ranked #2 in the nation by the Associated Press. They played in and won the Allstate Sugar Bowl, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide 31-17.
The California Golden Bears finished last season with a 9-4 (6-3 Pac-10) record. They played against the Miami Hurricanes in the Emerald Bowl, and won 24-17.
